  • We’re Helm. We buy, collect, and research data from a number of different sources in pursuit of our mission to expand participatory democracy and build a more equitable world

  • We work with campaigns, non-profits, corporations, and others trying to make their communities better

  • We collect data from our customers, we buy data from other companies, we do research, we conduct surveys, and we acquire public data from the US government and state governments. We also do research online

  • We also collect data from our web apps, mobile apps, and other software to build better products and troubleshoot issues

  • We have a number of vendors that help us process and store data

  • We use the data that we collect to build the products and services that we provide to our customers, in order to help them engage in political organizing and other political activity

  • We comply with all applicable privacy laws and provide privacy rights consistent with those laws

  • We’re US- based and we work with US-based customers.

TLDR

Who is Helm and what do you do?

Helm is a company that collects data and builds data products in order to help our customers shape campaigns, organizations, and movements.

What data does Helm collect and where do you get it from?

We collect “Personal Information” and other anonymous information. When we say personal information, that includes things such as name, address, phone number, or email address. That may also include things like unique device identifiers (basically, unique combinations of numbers and letters that are associated with your phone or computer).

We get that data directly from our users, and sometimes we’ll get that data directly from you. But we also may collect information from companies that sell data, like analytics companies, data brokers, demographic companies, and other companies who have data. Those surveys we mentioned earlier are another way we collect data. And finally, there’s a lot of data that’s part of the public record that is produced by local governments, state governments, and the US federal government -  we collect that data too.

Who is Helm?
What data?

Why does Helm collect data?

We collect data because we’re a data company. We use data to better understand the world we live in and to help build our products and services to best support that world. Our data and products are used to help our customers, which include campaigns, non-profits, and corporations seeking to positively transform communities and our wider society, reach their ideal  audiences. By helping our customers expand their impact, we aim to increase participatory democracy and build a more equitable world.

When you’re interacting with our website or apps and our users are interacting with our platform, we may also be collecting data about how those interactions go. This helps us troubleshoot issues and build better products and services, as well as help us research how we can be a better company.

Why collect data?

Who does Helm share that data with?

We share data with our customers. Our customers include non-profits, campaigns, and commercial entities.

We also share data with our vendors who help us process and store data. These vendors can include cloud service providers, software providers, and other service providers.
